Okay so I have had this problem since i got my car, The clearcoat appears to have small little raindrop sized scars on it. i wasnt sure what had happened but clay bar doesnt clean anything up nor does cleaner wax, polish, and what not that i could get at advance auto parts. any thoughts as what i could do other than repaint it. =============
I had the same thing on my STi. Subaru gave me an LED flashlight and said it was acid rain and not covered. I'll never be so quick to disregard paint defects as "needing a wash" again. =============
how do you apply your polish? and what kind of polish is it? =============
In the general NE area acid raid is still prevalent and there's nothing you can do about it. There is a chance that collinite insulator wax could protect a little against it but other than that there is not much protection against it.
If it is acid rain it should ONLY be on your horizontal surfaces (hood,trunk,roof) and it is rxtremely difficult to buff out without wetsanding. =============
The spots are mostly on the hood and DS fender. i have a 7in buffer that I use for polish and wax. I thought about wetsanding but with my luck i would screw it up some how. =============
try a 50/50 vinegar water mix? =============
i would consult a professional detailer in your area. they might be able to get the spots out with a rotary polisher and some intensive polish. make sure you talk to someone who has a paint meter and the knowledge to safely cut the clear without burning into the basecoat.
after that, make sure to keep the car clean and coated with paint sealant, with wax on top of that. =============
You can try vinegar or water/ISO cut 50/50. Your buffer isn't going to cut it. You'll need to get a pro detailer to have a go at it if the other ideas don't work. A pro detailer will be cheaper than repainting. It shouldn't need wetsanded. I quality detailer will know for sure. If you want to go that route let me know and I can give a reference. =============
