k so i have a slight problem

looks as thou its either the battery or some other electrical issue but in not certain and thought a great place to check is here.

anyways so i get home from work and ride the bike into the garage, turn her off and everythings fine

morning rolls round and hello when i turn the key no lights nothing come up on the instrument cluster.. no start, headlights, nothing.. wtf?.

now im certain there were no lights left on or the key left on either..

i tryed to jump it from a car (i know i know) but no joy at all, no lights come up nothing..

any help?..

on top of this i had to drive to work.. gah and its a nice day.
=============
Batteries are common faults on them, $30 for a new one.

I've seen the Alternator wiring short out one one
=============
yea the problem is the battery is like 1 month old, max.
=============
if there's nothing at all (not even turning over), then could be a loose wire.

but a batt can be spanky new, and still get shorted out.

is there any indication that there's any power in the battery at all? dim lights, or even the dash lights..??

nothing wrong with jumping it from a car either..
=============
yea the problem is the battery is like 1 month old, max.Ahah! Perhaps the other one failed because of a charging problem of some kind.
=============
Yep, sounds like a loose wire or.............................. A FUSE!!
=============
true, check the fuses, but if all the circuits are running, it wouldn't be a fuse
=============
Charging problem perhaps.......bike just runs on power in battery.........take battery back
=============
there is no dash lights, nothing.

fuses.. any in particular in mind?

seems kinda strange cause it hasnt moved since i was running it..
=============
Hyper Expansion of the occilation vehicular metals can cause a fuse to break even when the vehivle isn't moving
=============
have you checked all the wiring around the battery?
are you able to get hold of a voltimeter or any sort of electrical testing thingy? Just to make sure the battery does or does not have any charge. Then you can go from there.

Work from one end to another - ie - you have no power, so check the source. If the source is ok, follow the wiring and check the fuses (left side, front of the bike on yours) as far as you can.
If you can't check any more, or have no idea, seek someone who does..
=============
there is no dash lights, nothing.Had that in a car once, was harder to figure out; had a relay that had gone faulty. Car acted totally 'dead' then we'd clip on the jumper leads the relay got enough current in it to work. Unplug the jumper leads and it would be fine, you could start it without jumper leads. Leave the car for a day or two, and the relay was stuck again.

cheers bug. will have a looksie tonite.. damn it i was all amping ready to go this morning and ....

freakin thing.. well its always fun working on something you love anyways.. females.. bikes..
=============
Maybe a dud battery........
it can happen that you get a dud one..

so take it back and get them to test the battery...
They will replace it for you for FREE if its a dud one...
=============
Can happen, but quite unlikely. Don't neglect to test everything correctly before relying on it again.
=============
$20 says your rectifier is toast.
=============
An absolute dead battery will have that effect, but why is it dead if it's only 1 month old? So it could be your regulator/rectifier that's stuffed which will cause your battery to run right down. Check your 30amp fuse (green one) cos when that blows it has the same effect as has happened with you, but if that's blown something else has probably caused it such as a blown reg/rec. Seems to be a common Honda fault. :crazy:
=============
cheers for the replies lads!

ill have a look tonight.. and see how i fair.
=============
Check you master fuse - its a 30A beast located in the same unit as the starter motor relay. Follow the chunky wire from the battery to the relay - disconnect the plug (no need to unbolt the chunky wires though), and your master fuse is in there. If it is blown, there should be a spare fuse located in the bottom of the relay housy thingie, and try that. BUT the spare maynot work as it could be corroded to hell (mine was!). But fuses are cheap from the servo.
=============
Can happen, but quite unlikely.

It can happen, as it happened to me after having putting in a brand new battery...
I went back to bike shop - they tested it and replaced it straight away... They said that you can get the odd dud battery.

That battery went back to the distibutor.

There was no other cause for the battery to go like that... just a dud one.
=============
I've had a new battery die too, twice. Interestingly both times it showed up about 3 or 4 weeks after fitting. But different picture, wouldn't hold a charge.

But, could be a weak internal connection in the battery vibrated through

I suspect it's much more likely the fuse or rectifier. Or both. Diode gone in the rectifier will short the battery to earth and blow the fuse.
=============
So, how did it go? Find out what was up?
=============
easy to fix sell the honda and buy a suzuki !
=============
no news yet gotta get a voltmeter tonite and have a play.. trying to get the master fuse out is freaking impossible! i nearly flipped out and kicked the bike over in frustration..

will try again tonight.. grrr
=============
you held onto your lid longer than Postie did then :bleh:

Postie is circumsised? Actually, don't answer that. :pinch:
=============
how did we get onto penis coverings?..

back on topic..

any tips for getting out that damn fuse??.. plyers might not be the win i found..
=============
Heh, well I guess that fuse is toast now right :lol:

Here's a tip: If it's a coloured blade type fuse, Jap cars often have an extractor tool under the fuse box cover. Just open the fuse box under the dash of your cage, and borrow that for a minute :)
=============

hell no, i'm a complete man.
he's on about my temper, i can hold it for so long but working on Honda's is a saints game, I am minus one mirror after becoming un-amused at my bike giving me the fingers and dying again preventing me from the ride last night. still it was cracked already, i'm not gonna miss it.
=============
the main relay is giving me grief like no tommorow!.. cant get it open..
=============
Open? The relay should be sealed unit? Shouldn't it? Does it just pull out from the fuse panel/whatever plug it's connected to?
=============
the main relay is giving me grief like no tommorow!.. cant get it open..

Well you've definitely found the right one then... I mangled pretty good pulling the connector off. You need about three hands to do it good - a couple to pull the tags out and the third to wiggle the connector side to side while pulling. Damn! I hope people don't read that the wrong way!
