oh well the title says it all. she blew the voltage regulator/rectifier about a month back and i replaced that. then she started first pop. then she started to not start. so i replaced the battery, and she started for a while, now she's started to not start again. alot of starting there:slap: . anyways im running out of ideas. she turns over sweet but just doesnt catch on. if i push start her she goes fine. its just getting a bit embarrassing having to push my bike all the time. now im thinking its one of 3 things:
1) when i blew the regulator ive fried the CDI........ but then wouldnt it not run at all??
2) when i blew the regulator ive fried the plugs....... but the again wouldnt it not run at all????? i checked them visually and they seem fine.
3)carbs need a tune...... she usually needs quite alot of choke to start her up unless she is warm.

im guessing there's either no spark or no fuel mix...
but then why does it not start with the starter but usually starts fine with a push.
im totally puzzled....... so your views would be apprecciated

That sucks MOP, at least it still looks good.

hmmmm
Maybe your flooding it with lots of choke or throttle? I have found on the odd occasion if I did not get the throttle right on start up it wouldnt catch. I have heard they can be picky to start these bikes. I usually have no choke( even when cold) and give it about 1/4 throttle as i start, then wind a bit of choke on to warm it up once she is going.

Hope this helps mate.

Could be the stator, worth checking out. When I replaced my reg/rec a while ago, the chap went to lengths to explain that the stator was the cause of most of reg/rect failures.

Sounds like your battery isn't getting charge/ isn't holding charge.

But then again might not be......

I'm going to suggest checking your stator too, especially seeing how your r & r had crapped out. Perhaps also the battery has suffered a little as well.

check your start relay....make sure connections are tight..... check your startmotor is ok wire connection etc.

and also check where the connecter plug from the handlebar start button switch joins into the loom....when those get loose you can get all sorts of random problems.

my 2 cents....so yeah def check that connector plug from the handlebar switch to the loom

Cheers: MA

ok ..... i might have a bit of an update on the situation. i have just thought about it and think i give it about 1/4 throttle when i try and start it too. just before i tried starting her with no throttle and no choke. i could hear her catching on a bit. the no throttle and a bit of choke and she fired up sweet as. so i guess she is obviously running a bit rich. i suppose i will start by cleaning out the air filter. if thats no goodi might just lean out the carbs a bit.

about the stator....... i have just read a couple of articles and they said that a buggered stator produces a weak spark, which needs pretty mucha perfect mixture to ignite. so im guessing that might be it, coupled with the fact that i had regulator trouble earlier on. so can anyone please tell me the correct procedure for checking the spark. either that or i can just get my act together and open up my workshop manual. too lazy.........

maybe your new regulator isn't charging at the right rate or something...or not to enough amps?

as i say just check all your connections......if they are dirty the won't get enough current through them

Possibly someone put a Suzuki part in it, that will always prevent a bike performng, just a thought best to check it out, if Im right you need to call in the Suzuki removal experts you can find them in the yellow pages under
"poor performing motorcycles" or you can get them by emailing suzukinoperformance.co.nz

just trying to help
