hello guys.....

I am looking for forums where I could post this simple question and I found this about the PR that is why I post it here.....

I'm just confusing if PR has possibility to drop down??if yes...
In what way???

thanks for any reply....;)

I think you are confusing 'PR - Public Relations' with 'PR - Page Rank' on Google.

Yes Page Rank can go up as well as down. However, I wouldn't worry about it too much and would focus on how well your keywords rank on Google searches.

If you are asking if Public Relations can drop down. You might want to ask the Labour government.

if you mean Page Rank then yes it will go up and down frequently.

To get an accurate page rank, refer to the Alexa page rank with is in the millions as oppose to a scale of 1 to 10 like Google Page Rank.

for Alexa page rank figure go to: http://sue.su/pagerank

I think you want to post these types of questions here:

..if you mean Public Relations, ignore all of above!

I agree with Trainer, don't worry about it much

It can go down as Google detect poor quality links, i.e. directory submissions that they didn't in the past and their requirements increase

Alexa is in no way accurate, its biased and easily faked.

Agreed. Here is a good example of that:

Just out of interest, is the Alexa page rank used by any search engines - or is it purely for web users to see how popular a site is (even if the stats are bit misleading)?

Cheers

Alexa page rank? sorry are you talking about Alexa traffic rank?

Two things:

1) Google PageRank is not very accurate and is, to say the least unreliable and pointless (http://www.michaelthorn.co.uk/why-google-page-rank-is-pointless.php).

2) Alexa Traffic rank is also inaccurate! Data is based on impressions collated through visitors who have the alexa toolbar installed (for which the majority of these are likely to be webmaster/computer related users).
=============
Alexa data is not easily faked, if it were easily faked, people would be doing it left right and center.

To those that say it is easy to fake, I say, fine, tell me your url, and then 'fake it' to get your site into the top 1000 for a few months, and then I will take it seriously.

If its easy to fake, you wont have any problems doing that surely?

It can be skewed in many ways, such as getting your users to use the toolbar, or having multiple sites under one url (such as thebestof which has all of its areas under its main url) as alexa only counts the main url, not sub directories etc.

It is also skewed by country, as some countries have more alexa users.

The other main 'skew' is the users, certain users, such as people who are interested in seo, or checking the alexa ranking (such as best of franchisors) will have the alexa toolbar (or a compatible one) installed.

Alexa is a great tool if you bear the above in mind, and compare like for like, ie sites in a similar niche.

As far as I am aware, no major search engine officially uses it for ranking purposes in any way (other than counting links to sites where people talk about alexa ranks etc)

Dotty- this was also posted in your long flame thread about The Best Of and some legal ranting issue you had.. I'm not looking to start an argument but would like to mention something if I may.

The person who posted that article which you point people to - 'disenchantedtech' -- sounds like a wonderfully reliable source of information doesn't he? The article is ridiculous and entirely one sided. You're not doing anyone on here favours by posting it- regardless of your opinion of The Best Of. but then I think most people on here know that when reading that article.

I believe having the TBO Admin console as part of same URL umbrella as the main site in order to 'fake' Alexa rankings was not the original evil plan you make it out to be. That's just how the site was designed. There is a different web address required to access the admin function but if Alexa counts all franchisee admin visits needed to post events, info and businesses features as part of all visits to the site then so be it..

The fact is TBO now easily hits more than a million page impressions per month - regardless of what Alexa says. A good number of them might be franchisees who are working at maintaining local information, events, adding new features- but not anything like the article makes out or you indirectly by posting it.
