We supply a lot of fancy dress and other accessories to TV production companies.
Just recently we have had a couple of enquiries aksing permission to use our products on TV.
As we are not the manufacturer we can't give this permission, it is difficult to know what to do. Annoyingly we get asked for permission by people who haven't even bought from us.
Has there been new legislation which means fake vomit, for instance, cannot be used on TV without manufacturers permission?
What is going on here? =============
Film companies have never bothered to ask us for permission. I can't see why they should, once the hire fees have been agreed and they have taken delivery all items are in effect theirs for the duration of the hire.
Perhaps they were newbies and were just playing safe? =============
I guess it will be for trademark issues and they are covering themselves. =============
We've been asked this when we've sold thing to TV companies. If we've sold it then we give them the manufacturer's phone number, if we haven't then we suggest they contact the people they bought it from - after all if they didn't buy it from us we would have no way of knowing who the manufacturer was :) =============
"Annoyingly we get asked for permission by people who haven't even bought from us."
Dont get annoyed - its a great opportunity to get a new customer!
All the best

That's a good attitude. It's annoying though, because they have already bought and they want us to run around trying to figure out what is going on - plus they don't tell you they are not customers already.
One faxed over a very legalese agreement for us to sign which frankly scared the heck out of me. =============
Have a nice legalese agreement run up, that basically says that for what it's worth you are more than happy for them to show whatevers wearing doodahs, with or without batteries, on their show. For a nominal monthly fee of £TV-Town money, certainement.
It's payment for hand-holding/box ticking. The first few should pay for the lawyer/shark drawing up a doc. in cod-legal, and thereafter, (and henceforth), it's as near as you are going to get to a philosopher's stone.:) =============
