changing contracted Hours

Hi,

I run two fast-growing ecommerce business and we're moving premises and going through a business over-haul to be fit for continued growth. We currently have 2 employees - set to grow to 5 later in the year - but here and now I want to change the contracted hours one of them works from 9am-2pm Mon-Fri to 10.30am-3.30pm Mon-Fri.

Am I right in thinking we can simply ask them to change shifts or are there legal implications/channels to follow? Do they have a right to say no or is it a case of them going elsewhere if it doesn't suit them?

Also if anyone has feedback on a good way to handle the conversation?

Any thoughts gratefully received...

You just need to talk to them about the reasons the business needs them to alter their hours in a meeting. Then allow them time to think about it (several days min and talk to whoever they need to- child care etc) and then get their decisions.

Once this is done you can record their agreement in a change of contract and get them to sign it or get further advice on what to do next if there is a refusal on here.
