I need to know who actually owns a car wash company near my home. where can I obtain this information as i want to send a solicitors letter to them?

Have a look on http://www.companieshouse.gov.uk/info/ and see if the car wash is registered as a Limited company. If it is, then you can serve letters to the company's registered office address.
If it isn't then just have the letter served to the premises.

It is not generally the correct practice to serve company notices to the owners home.

Firstly, you need to be sure it's a company. If it isn't, then you need to know the name of the person who owns the business/trading name.
