Hi all
I need a little advice if possible and thought I'd see if anyone could help on here.
I've been with my current employer for 8 years and started as an Administrator and worked my way up the ranks to Management.
Anyhow today I have been asked for my CV as they need it to send to a potential client along with other managers CV's as part of a tender we are submitting to win business. The tender basically states they want to view the peoples CV's that will be dealing with them if they were to award the tender to us.
I have reservations about this, I may just be being awkward I don't know. Personally I feel that I don't want this company really having access to my CV and details. But I am worried if I say no that my employer may discipline me for not complying.
Therefore I wanted to know where I stand with this and am I obliged to let them have this to pass onto a third party?
Thanks in advance. =============
why do they need this? what about the data protection act? =============
It is common on submission of tenders for there to be a request for this information and if it is not submitted then the likelihood is that the tender will be rejected. In many years of submission of tenders I have not seen any that do not require CVs for all of the management involved.
This is a matter for you to discuss with your employer and voice the reasons for your concerns. It may be that you can provide, for the purposes of the tender an abbreviated CV, which is acceptable to both you and your employer.
Your employer would be unwise to discipline you over a data issue of this nature but of course lack of tender wins also may result in loss of jobs so you need to consider all aspects of the refusal and meet in the middle if possible. =============
I don't understand what your concern is. Your employer would have your CV when you first got the job and over the 8 yrs you have worked with them, they know what roles you have had. Is there something in your CV that your employer does not know?
Its common practise for CVs to be submitted with responses to tenders and most employees would not have a problem with this.
Use the opportunity to update your CV and use it to remind your managers of your achievements over the 8 yrs! =============
You could always update your CV with this submission in mind - leave off info you feel is sensitive eg address.
There's nothing wrong with supplying details of your education and work experience and achievements. Sounds like you have worked hard to get where you are - be proud of it.
Good luck

Hi,
Looks like the overall opinion is go with sending your CV - which id agree with.
Keep in mind that all CV's should be aimed at specific objectives, and arranged accordingly.
So what i mean to say it, you dont have to submit the type of CV you might have put in when going for a job or whatever - esp leaving off any personal info if you wish.
Seems fair enough that the other company wants to know who it could be working with.
That all said - I send my CV off left, right and centre, personal details and all when job hunting, so wouldnt see this as a major issue.
But good point to think about.
All the best

Hi,
I agree with the main consensus of you providing a CV. That said, in my 'past life' all tender documents received contained a synopsis/background of the tenderers Management Team. It was a requirement under ISO9001/2000 and compliance with the company's Risk Management Strategy.
The details from the managers was basically a potted history of their achievements and future objectives within the company, and provided us with a reasonable confidence level of the experience and training capabilities of the managers and ultimately, their staff.
There is no necessity for you to provide any personal details of yourself apart from dates of milestones that you and your company wish to show in order to win the bid over your competitors.
Hope this helps. =============
Hi all
Many thanks for all your feedback. I will look at doing a kind of cut down version for them based on my 8 years within the company. Not giving my personal details as such.
As suggested it may also be a good way to get my achievements recognised here as to be honest it's very rare that anyone gets any recognition in this place.
Thanks again
