If you close a business (self-employed rather than Ltd Company), do you automatically get a VAT inspection?

Thanks,

Jon
=============
Not that I have heard of.
however make sure you keep your records for the required time and go through the correct proceedure for deregistering from VAT as they can ask questions and inspect after you have ceased trade.

As Jenni says, they don't do inspections on closure / de-registration but I did have a client who had a VAT inspection of his books two years after he retired so it is very important to keep the papers.

David.
